Tout ce qui est véritablement bon et beau, de beauté intérieure morale, spirituelle et sublime dans les hommes et dans leurs œuvres, je pense que cela vient de Dieu et que tout ce qu’il y a de mauvais et de méchant dans les œuvres des hommes et dans les hommes, cela n’est pas de Dieu et Dieu ne trouve pas cela bien non plus.
Mais involontairement je suis toujours porté à croire que le meilleur moyen pour connaître Dieu, c’est d’aimer beaucoup. Aimez tel ami, telle personne, telle chose, ce que tu voudras, tu seras dans le bon chemin pour en savoir plus long après, voilà ce que je me dis. Mais il faut aimer d’une haute et d’une sérieuse sympathie intime, avec volonté, avec intelligence, et il faut toujours tâcher d’en savoir plus long, mieux et davantage. Cela mène à Dieu, cela mène à la foi inébranlable.
